Gouache Studies
While I view design and art as two very different things, I think that refining my work as an artist has helped me when it comes to visual design. Here are some of my recent works.
In this study, I wanted to achieve the look of a monochromatic skull, but I liked the depth and drama that happens when using red underneath a painting.
In this painting, I wanted to capture the feeling of making dinner in a not-so-glamorous kitchen. For many of us, cooking entails crowed messes and harsh lighting, which is what I wanted to capture.
Here I wanted to tell a story. The light is on because someone was just sitting here, maybe they are now just out of frame. This is the middle of a conversation.
Painting studies helps me explore the relationship between shapes, color, and composition which then helps inform my decisions when practicing visual design.
